Spectrum Space offers a range of programs and initiatives for autistic young people and adults across Western Australia.
While social connection remains at the heart of what we do, our work extends beyond social programs. We deliver holiday programs, workshops, special projects, leadership opportunities, community events and the annual Spectrum Space Symposium.
Many of our opportunities are shaped by participant interests, community feedback and emerging needs. Alongside our ongoing programs, we regularly develop new initiatives through partnerships, grants and community collaboration, creating opportunities for people to explore interests, learn new skills and contribute in meaningful ways.
We deliver programs across multiple locations throughout Western Australia and continue to explore opportunities to expand into new communities where demand exists.
We recognise that everyone brings their own strengths, interests, experiences and goals.
Our programs are non-therapeutic and are designed to complement, not replace, clinical or therapeutic supports. Rather than focusing on deficits or outcomes that look the same for everyone, we create opportunities for people to connect, participate, explore interests, develop skills and engage with their communities in ways that feel meaningful to them.
Supports are tailored to individual goals, interests and support needs while recognising the value that can come from shared experiences and genuine connection with others.
Our role is not to provide therapy. Instead, we focus on supporting social connection, community participation, capacity building and opportunities for belonging.
Every person connects differently. Some people enjoy regular social programs, while others are interested in special projects, workshops, events or leadership opportunities.
Whatever the pathway, our focus is on creating welcoming environments where people can connect through shared interests, build confidence, develop skills and participate in ways that feel meaningful to them.
Our social programs provide opportunities for autistic young people and adults to connect through shared interests, activities and experiences.
Youth and teen programs run during the school term, while adult programs are offered throughout the year.
Supports are tailored to individual goals, strengths, interests and support needs and may contribute to outcomes relating to social and community participation, building relationships, developing independence and increasing confidence in community settings.
Rather than following a fixed program structure, participants help shape the direction of their program through their interests, ideas and goals. This creates opportunities to explore new experiences, build skills, develop confidence and contribute to decision-making about the activities and experiences that matter to them.
As a result, every program, develops its own personality and focus, creating unique opportunities for connection, participation and growth.
Supported by Telethon, our holiday programs provide autistic children and teenagers with opportunities to connect, explore interests and participate in a wide range of community experiences during the school holidays.
Delivered across multiple locations throughout Western Australia, the program combines structured activities, excursions and incursions designed to create opportunities for social connection, skill development, independence and community participation in a supportive and inclusive environment.
While each holiday program includes a planned schedule of activities, participant voice is at the centre of our approach. Feedback, ideas and interests shared by participants help shape future program offerings, ensuring activities remain relevant, engaging and responsive to the people who attend.
Learning, sharing experiences and building understanding are an important part of what we do.
Spectrum Space delivers a range of workshops, education opportunities, community events and professional learning experiences for autistic people, families, supporters, educators, professionals and the broader community.
Many of our community workshops and events are offered at low cost or free of charge through partnerships, grants and community support, helping to improve access to information, connection and shared learning opportunities.
Alongside community education, we deliver tailored workshops and training for schools, businesses, organisations and community groups seeking to build their understanding of neurodiversity and create more inclusive environments.
Our signature event, the Spectrum Space Symposium, brings together autistic people, families, educators, professionals, researchers and community members from across Australia. The Symposium creates opportunities to explore lived experience and professional perspectives, share knowledge, challenge assumptions and contribute to important conversations about neurodiversity, inclusion and community participation.
Some of our most exciting opportunities begin with an idea, an interest or a community partnership.
Through grant-funded initiatives, collaborations and participant-led projects, we create opportunities for people to explore interests, learn new skills and contribute to meaningful shared experiences.
Past projects have included creative arts and performance initiatives, music production and video projects, robotics and technology activities, research collaborations and community engagement opportunities.
Many of our programs can be accessed using NDIS funding for participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. Programs are also available through private payment, with some initiatives funded through grants and community partnerships.
